Foreground plants typically remain very short, and will tend to spread out wider rather than grow taller as they develop. Microsword, crypts, and anubias are all plants which fit into this category. Some plants such as the Micro Sword or Pygmy Chain sword look very similar to grass, but those two plants also require a great deal of light to survive in an aquarium. Many of these plants do not require pruning as taller plants do, so they are generally not very difficult to work with other than the lighting conditions.
