Mid-ground plants such as crypts, cabomba, and Java fern are plants which will fill in the center area of the aquarium but can also be used as background plants in some cases. Most of these plants are not particularly difficult to care for, and the growth habits of mid-ground plants are all a bit different, so they can really provide a lot of variety without much effort.
